BOWMAN, Emily Claire, nee Chalfie, age 77, died peacefully to the music of Carole King on April 22, 2016. Emily was born in Cincinnati, Ohio March 13, 1939 to the late Samuel L Chalfie Esq and Ruth Marcus Chalfie. She attended Walnut Hills High School and The Ohio State University. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years, Robert A. Bowman, Jr. and her second husband of 10 years, Jay Leikin. She leaves behind 3 daughters, Barbara Bowman Tobias MD (Thomas Tobias), Susan Bowman Burpee MS, CNP, (Robert Burpee Esq) and Nancy Bowman Mulvey MEd (John Mulvey Esq) and six grandchildren, Benjamin Bowman Tobias, Ann Bowman Tobias, James Bowman Burpee, Andrew Bowman Burpee, Robert Joseph Mulvey, Richard Bowman Mulvey, brother James J Chalfie, Esq (Eileen Chalfie), nephews Jonathan Chalfie, (Marla), Craig Chalfie MD (Tammi) and Michael Chalfie (Jill) and seven nieces and nephews. Emily was an active and enthusiastic volunteer throughout her life. As a young mother, her dedication to her patients at Drake Hospital inspired her to become a Registered Nurse. After earning her nursing degree from University of Cincinnati -Blue Ash, she continued to care for those same patients. She later became the school nurse for Wyoming City Schools. Her dedication to her community continued throughout her life, initially in Wyoming as a Girl Scout leader, and along with her husband Bob, as school volunteers, athletic boosters, fundraisers and Corral Show parent producers. When Emily and Bob moved to Palm Beach, Florida in 1984, their community commitment grew new roots. As a 30-year resident of Palm Beach, Emily was honored for her work and leadership by Town of Palm Beach United Way as a Lifetime Trustee. After Bob died at 54 of brain cancer, Emily became a fundraiser and ardent advocate for brain tumor research and a member of the National Brain Tumor Foundation’s Visionary Society as well as an active supporter and trustee of the Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults. Emily was a member of Sigma Delta Tau Sorority, Gamma Chapter, Losantiville County Club, Kindervelt of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and Valley Temple in Cincinnati, the Rotary Club of Palm Beach, Palm Beach Chaîne des Rôtisseurs and Temple Judea. Emily was gracious and kind. Emily loved her family and friends. She was a champion for the underdog and will be remembered for her generosity, loyalty and beauty. Services Weil Funeral Home, 8350 Cornell Road, Sunday, April 24, 1:30 P.M. Visitation begins at 12:30 P.M. Private burial to follow.
