Shterna Kalmanson

Mrs. Shterna S. Kalmanson, an emissary of the Lubavitcher Rebbe to Southern Ohio passed away on 11 Nissan, 5779, April 16, 2019. Mrs. Kalmanson is survived by her husband, Rabbi Sholom B. Kalmanson, their children Mrs. Chana (Rabbi Yisroel) Mangel; Rabbi Yosef (Rochel) Kalmanson – Mason, Ohio; Rabbi Mendy (Devorah) Kalmanson; Mrs. Menucha (Rabbi Mendy) Majeski; Mrs. Devorah (Rabbi Yisrael) Pinson – Detroit, Michigan; Rabbi Shneur (Chana) Kalmanson – Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Shaina (Rabbi Gavriel) Levin – Postville, Iowa; Mrs. Chavi (Rabbi Mendy) Schechter – New Orleans, Louisiana; and Mrs. Mushky Kalmanson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother Mrs. Rivka Ceitlin of Montreal, Canada and siblings Mrs. Brocha Teitelbaum - Brooklyn NY; Mrs. Zelda Yarmush – Montreal, Canada; Mrs. Esty Benshimon – Montreal, Canada; Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Ceitlin – Toronto, Ontario; Mrs. Devorah Leah Mishulovin – Los Angeles, California. She was predeceased by her father Rabbi Heshel Ceitlin and her brother Rabbi Aaron Eliezer Ceitlin, of Tzfat, Israel. She was laid to rest in New York, next to her younger brother, Rabbi Aaron Lazer Ceitlin OB"M and near the resting place of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, to whom she dedicated her life. Mrs. Kalmanson was born in Paris and grew up in Montreal. Her father Rabbi Heshel Ceitlin, was the spiritual leader of the Chabad community there, as well as a renowned traveling Mohel and Shochet. After her marriage, to Rabbi Sholom B. Kalmanson, the couple was sent by the Rebbe on various assignments until their permanent assignment in Cincinnati, where they founded Chabad of Southern Ohio. Shterna Kalmanson, was a source of joy, deep faith, and inspiration to so many, for so many years, with her gentle smile and generous heart. She was a pioneer of Jewish outreach in Cincinnati and a strong driving factor behind strengthening Jewish identity in the Greater Cincinnati region for over 40 years. She served as a mentor and spiritual guide to many. Due to Passover beginning Friday night, the Kalmanson family will only be sitting shiva in Cincinnati on Thursday evening & Friday Morning. Shiva will be held at the family home, 7380 Laurel Oak Lane, Amberley. Visiting hours will begin at 5pm on Thursday. Services will Thursday evening at 8pm and Friday morning at 8:30am. April 18 and 19.
