Roy "Dan" Howard

Roy Daniel “Dan” Howard, born April 2, 1951, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. In his final moments, his loved ones stood beside him, holding his hands, reciting scripture, and commending him to the peace of Christ. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Sloas Howard Nickel; his father, Harlan Howard; his brother, David Howard; and his stepson, Darren Stapleton. He is survived by his devoted wife, Priscilla Howard; his son, Jordan (Rebeca) Howard; his sisters, Naomi Shewman, Elizabeth Normand, and Hazel Leisring; his stepdaughter, Heather Stapleton; his step-granddaughters, Clare and Emily Stapleton; his nephews, Robert (Theresa) Clausing and Elias Leisring; his nieces, Wendy Blansett and Bobbie (Dan) Rosen; and dear lifelong friends, Sherry and Dexter Hulse. Born and raised in Rubyville, OH, Dan built a life defined by resilience, humility, and dedication to his family. Over the years, he worked across construction, automotive, and aerospace maintenance before ultimately becoming a successful entrepreneur through sacrifice, perseverance, and an unwavering work ethic. Outside of work, Dan found joy in restoring classic cars, riding motorcycles, studying history, and spending quiet evenings watching his favorite television programs such as Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and The Andy Griffith Show. But above all else, Dan will be remembered for the kind of man he was. A more remarkable man would be difficult to find — strong yet deeply compassionate; serious when circumstances demanded it, yet often the funniest person in the room. He was humble, selfless to a fault, and unwavering in his sense of responsibility. Dan gave everything he had to provide for those he loved, never seeking recognition and never uttering a complaint. His family was the center of his life, and he was deeply loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. To those who knew him best, there could never have been a more loyal friend, loving husband, or cherished father. Dan was a devout Christian whose faith remained steadfast throughout his life and illness. He was honored to serve as a trustee of First Baptist Church of Goshen, Ohio. His family finds peace in knowing that he now walks whole again in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who supported and cared for Dan throughout the progression of his illness, especially his church family, Dexter and Sherry Hulse, and the compassionate nurses and aides who cared for him with kindness and dignity. Most of all, endless gratitude is owed to his beloved wife, Priscilla, who faithfully attended to his every need day and night for years, never leaving his side. Her love and devotion were a testament to the vows they shared and the life they lived together. Services will be held at Weil Kahn Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and funeral services at 11:00 a.m., followed by graveside interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
